Mia Wasikowska Circling 2 Projects

Mia Wasikowska is quickly becoming one of the most in demand young actresses working today.

Variety reports that Wasikowska is circling two very different projects.  The first project is said to be from director John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road), the Prohibition film The Wettest County in the World that stars Shia LeBouf and Tom Hardy. The film is about 3 brothers who run a bootlegging gang during the Prohibition period in the United States and their business is threatened by the corrupt authorities who want a piece of the profits. This project has a little bit of a long history; Ryan Gosling, Scarlett Johanson and Amy Adams but that fell through.

The other project is from writer/actor Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) which is about an eccentric teen whose estranged uncle returns to the family after the death of her father and is entitled Uncle Charlie.

Will be interesting to see which project she chooses but if I had to wager I would bet she picks the more interesting The Wettest County in the World.

Jeffrey Wright and Viola Davis Will Get Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

ThePlaylist reports that Jeffrey Wright and Viola Davis will be joining the already talented cast of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close which will be directed by Stephen Daldry. The film is based on the novel of the same name.

Wright and Davis join Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock and John Goodman.

The novel which the film is based on is about Oskar Schell, a nine-year old boy who lost his father on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks. Several years after his father’s death, Oskar finds a key that will open a locked box which Oskar scours the city looking for. Hanks plays the deceased father, Bullock plays his mother and Goodman reportedly will be playing the doorman at Oskar’s building.  No word on the parts of Davis and Wright.

The project sounds interesting, the cast is excellent sounds like a good film to keep track of.

Kevin Smith To Auction Off Distribution Rights For Red State, Protests Planned

Say what you want about filmmaker Kevin Smith he’s never boring.  This Sunday his long-awaited and much talked about horror film Red State will have its premiere in Park City, Utah at the Sundance Film Festival.

Smith funded Red State independently and it currently does not have a distributor. Instead of screening Red State for the press and distributors which is the norm Smith will hold a public auction immediately following the film.  I don’t know how this will end for the filmmaker as I can’t imagine many distributors participating in a public auction and paying the 6-8 million that Smith is hoping for.

If this doesn’t work, nobody really knows what will happen next in regards to Red State.  Smith has said in the past that he doesn’t want to use alternative distribution such as Video On Demand and DVD. Smith in his podcasts has lightly talked about distributing the film himself but would much rather not.

If this public auction isn’t enough, there is going to be a protest outside the theater against Red State! For those that do not know Red State is very loosely based on the infamous Westboro Baptist Church and its founder Fred Phelps.  The Church is planning to protest the screening of the film.  Smith has added more fire to fuel as he has been engaged in a war of words on Twitter with Phelps’ daughter Megan.

And the craziness doesn’t stop there! Smith is organizing his fans and followers to protest the protesters of the film at The Sundance Film Festival. Smith wants his fans to shout and wave around pointless, comedic slogans in attempt to mock the Church.

Like I said, say what you want about Kevin Smith, he’s not boring.

New Judge Dredd Set Photo

The newest photo of the reboot of Judge Dredd has hit the internet. The quality is not great of the photo but we finally get to see Judge Dredd in full armor.

Judge Dredd stars Karl Urban (Star Trek), Olivia Thirlby (Juno) and Lena Headey (Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, 300).

The cast sounds promising and hopefully it will be much better than the original Dredd starring Stallone.
