The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Fox 2000 has acquired the film rights to Douglas Preston and Mario Spezi’s bestseller The Monster Of Florence with George Clooney set to star and produce.
The Monster Of Florence is a true crime book that investigates the murderer(s) who killed more than a dozen people from the late 1960’s to the mid 1980’s without ever being caught. While investigating these murders the authors were at one time investigated by the police.
Originally Tom Cruise optioned the book in 2008 when he was running United Artists. Cruise was set to produce and star in the adaptation. Cruise commissioned Chris McQuarrie to write the film. Due to MGM’s financial trouble the book wound up in turnaround.
