Throughout the ages Cleopatra has fascinated many. There are countless books about her. Shakespeare even wrote a play about her. Cecil B. DeMille directed a film about her in 1934. Of course the infamous film version was made in 1963 starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Besides being historically inaccurate it nearly bankrupted 20th Century Fox, it ended several marriages and Elizabeth Taylor almost died during production.
In the days of remakes and reboots and whatever else you want to put an re in front of it was only a matter of time before another Cleopatra film was made. Angelina Jolie has been rumored for a long time to be playing Cleopatra. James Cameron was rumored to be directing but that ship has sailed.
Deadline reports that the studio is reporting that Scott Rudin is trying to get Paul Greengrass to direct the adaption of Stacy Schiff’s biography Cleopatra: A Life. This new story of Cleopatra will of course be shot in 3-D and it’s reported that it will be going for a PG-13 rating. It looks like once again we’re not going to get a true telling of Cleopatra’s life. All the seductions, all the affairs and all the bloodshed she caused was not PG-13 that’s for sure.
