Saoirse Ronan Joins The Hobbit

ComingSoon reports that Saoirse Ronan has joined the cast of The HobbitComingSoon spoke to casting director of  Ros Hubbard The Hobbit and he says:

Saoirse’s family will go too, everyone is very close and very loving on those sorts of jobs.

Ronan starred in Peter Jackson’s last film The Lovely Bones. Ronan will play Itaril, a woodland Elf from the Silvan Elves. It’s really good casting, she looks the part of an Elf from Middle Earth. As this film shapes up I’m really looking forward to it.

Peter Jackson Hospitalized, Production On The Hobbit Delayed

Production on Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit has been delayed briefly due to the director, Peter Jackson needing surgery.

Peter Jackson has been hospitalized with a perforated ulcer and will push the start date of The Hobbit back a little but there should be no significant delay as Jackson has had successful surgery for his ulcer and is recovering.

Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis Return To Middle Earth!

Last week we reported that Elijah Wood would reprise his role as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s prequel to the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit. Now two more cast members from the original trilogy will reprise their roles.

Deadline reports that Andy Serkis will once again portray Gollum! Once again Serkis will perform the motion capture parts of the deranged creature.

THR is also reporting that Ian McKellen will reprise his role as Gandalf!

I’m so happy that the cast is finally coming together. There has been so much trouble with this production, it’s great to see that Peter Jackson is assembling his cast.

In addition to Wood, McKellen and Serkis reprising their roles from the original trilogy are Christopher Lee as the wizard Saruman and Ian Holm as the older Bilbo Baggins.

Personally if these actors were not in The Hobbit I would have had no interest in seeing the film. Now I cannot wait to see this film. Are you as excited as I am for The Hobbit?

Yesterday we brought you news that Warner Bros. would be picking up the whole $500 million to distribute The Hobbit.

Now the reports that Elijah Wood will be returning to play Frodo Baggins in The Hobbit!

There have been reports that several other actors besides Ian McKellen reprising their roles to bridge The Hobbit and the Lord Of The Rings trilogy such as Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom but nobody was really sure if Wood would join them.  There has been speculation for a while on whether or not Wood would be in the new films considering that the Hobbit takes place before Frodo was born. reports:

As readers of “The Hobbit” know, the tale of “The Downfall of The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit or There and Back Again,” are contained in the fictional “Red Book of Westmarch.” In Peter Jackson’s LOTR films, the book is shown on screen and written in by Bilbo and Frodo and handed off to Sam Gamgee. (Not explained on film are Sam’s progeny later having the book and being Wardens of the Westmarch — hence the book’s title.)

The fictional book, and either the telling from it or the reading of it, will establish Frodo in the films experiencing Bilbo’s story. Viewers are to learn the tale of ‘The Hobbit’ as a familiar Frodo gets the tale as well.

I’m not surprised that Peter Jackson wanted to bring Frodo back for the movies, it was his journey that audiences around the world followed in the original trilogy.  For fans of the Hobbit do you like this?  Do you feel that this is a change that should not be made to the classic novel?  Sound off.
