Park Chan-wook Shoots Newest Film On The Iphone

Park Chan-wook, the Korean director of Oldboy has announced that his newest film, titled Paranmanjang was shot entirely on the iPhone 4. The film with a running time of 30 minutes and a budget of $133,000 will be released in Korean theaters this month is about a man trying to transcend his life while involved in a murder.

Chan-wook talking to Yahoo says:

The new technology creates strange effects because it is new and because it is a medium the audience is used to

Chan-wook enjoyed shooting the film on the iPhone, saying:

There are some good points of making a movie with the iPhone as there are many people around the world who like to play and have fun with them.

It’s a very interesting idea, shooting a film, even if it’s a short on a cellphone. While I’m sure some amateur filmmakers have shot a film on their phones, Park Chan-wook is different from them. An established filmmaker embracing new technology is refreshing. I hope the film makes its way over here soon.
