Mia Wasikowska Joins Stoker

Deadline reports that Mia Wasikowska has joined director Park Chan-wook’s Stoker. The story centers on a moody teenager whose mysterious uncle comes back into her family’s lives after the death of her father.

Originally Jodie Foster and Carey Mulligan were casted in the film but both have left the project. There is no word on who play the older woman and the mysterious uncle.

The script is written by Wentworth Miller, star of the TV series Prison Break.

Neil Blomkamp’s second feature film following District 9 will begin production this July and is shooting for a Holiday 2012 release.

Deadline reports that the film will be R-rated and takes place 100 years into the future. There will be plenty of social allegories which made District 9 such a huge hit.

Elysium will also be designed by Syd Mead, the set designer for Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner.

The sci-fi film stars Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley (District 9) and Jodie Foster.

Jodie Foster In Neil Blomkamp’s Elysium

2009 Neil Blomkamp’s District 9 premiered to great reviews for the director and the film.  District 9 earned 4 Oscar nominations including one for Best Picture.

There is no story synopsis yet for Elysium but we know that it’s not a sequel to District 9, and it’s set far into the future on a distant planet.  So far Blomkamp has casted District 9 star Sharlto Copley and Matt Damon.  Deadline is now reporting that Jodie Foster will join the cast.  Surprisingly Elysium does not yet have a distributor.

District 9 was one of my favorite films of 2009 and I cannot wait to see what Neil Blomkamp has in stored for audiences this time around.
