Black Swan was the best film of 2010, no doubt about that in my mind and it has been nominated for Oscars including best actress for Natalie Portman, Best Director for Darren Aronofsky and Best Picture.

James Franco and Benicio Del Toro Join Michael Shannon In The Ice Man

The Iceman is the story of mob hitman Richard ‘the Ice Man’ Kuklinski.  The film is written Morgan Land and Ariel Vromen.  Vromen will also direct the film. The film is based on the book The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer. Additional research was done by jailhouse interviews with Kuklinski.

Playing the role of Kuklinski is Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road, Boardwalk Empire). Del Toro and Franco will have supporting roles.

Production is believed to start in the Summer.

This is not the only film about The Iceman, Mickey Rourke has long been rumored to be starring in The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer but it looks like The Ice Man is going to beat that film to the punch.

Below is the official synopsis to the Ice Man:

THE ICEMAN is the electrifying true story of Richard Kuklinski (Shannon), a notorious mob contract killer and loving family man. He earned his nickname by freezing the bodies of his victims, disguising the time of death, and throwing police off-track. He was a man who used his tendencies toward violence and detachment from consequence to create an idyllic family life. His family and neighbors believed he was an average businessman, having no idea about his deadly alternate life. Kuklinski killed over one hundred people during his life. He never felt remorse for anything he had done, except hurting his family. Del Toro co-stars as Kuklinski’s employer, the notorious mobster Roy Demeo, and Franco plays his mentor assassin known as Mr. Softee.

I really like the cast for The Ice Man. Michael Shannon has finally gotten a chance to show his acting abilities and hasn’t disappointed. He was great in Revolutionary Road which earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination and his work on Boardwalk Empire has been phenomenal. James Franco continues to take on many different projects and always delivers as does Benicio Del Toro with the right material. I’m very interested in seeing this film.
