Bond 23 Is Back On With Sam Mendes Directing

It looks like MGM is finally getting its act together. The new James Bond, the 23rd in the series is officially back on. Returning will be Daniel Craig. Sam Mendes is still on board to direct the film. Bond 23 is scheduled to hit theaters on November 9, 2012.

Sam Mendes is one of my favorite directors, having directed such great films as American Beauty, Road To Perdition, the underappreciated Revolutionary Road and 2009’s best romantic comedy Away We Go. Road To Perdition has some great action scenes but a Bond film will have a lot more action, it would be interesting to see how he directs Bond.

Here is the official press release:

LOS ANGELES, CA (JANUARY 11, 2011) – Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, together with Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., today announced that the 23rd James Bond film will commence production in late 2011 for a worldwide release on November 9, 2012.

Daniel Craig will be returning as the legendary British secret agent, with Sam Mendes directing a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan.

Casino Royale was a great film and did a fantastic job in rebooting the franchise. Quantum of Solace was also a good film, just not as good as it’s predecessor. Right now there is no word on which actress will play the newest Bond Girl.

Are you excited to see James Bond return?
