BREAKING NEWS! ELIJAH WOOD TO RETURN AS FRODO FOR THE HOBBIT

Yesterday we brought you news that Warner Bros. would be picking up the whole $500 million to distribute The Hobbit.

Now the TheOneRing.net reports that Elijah Wood will be returning to play Frodo Baggins in The Hobbit!

There have been reports that several other actors besides Ian McKellen reprising their roles to bridge The Hobbit and the Lord Of The Rings trilogy such as Viggo Mortensen and Orlando Bloom but nobody was really sure if Wood would join them.  There has been speculation for a while on whether or not Wood would be in the new films considering that the Hobbit takes place before Frodo was born.

TheOneRing.net reports:

As readers of “The Hobbit” know, the tale of “The Downfall of The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit or There and Back Again,” are contained in the fictional “Red Book of Westmarch.” In Peter Jackson’s LOTR films, the book is shown on screen and written in by Bilbo and Frodo and handed off to Sam Gamgee. (Not explained on film are Sam’s progeny later having the book and being Wardens of the Westmarch — hence the book’s title.)

The fictional book, and either the telling from it or the reading of it, will establish Frodo in the films experiencing Bilbo’s story. Viewers are to learn the tale of ‘The Hobbit’ as a familiar Frodo gets the tale as well.

I’m not surprised that Peter Jackson wanted to bring Frodo back for the movies, it was his journey that audiences around the world followed in the original trilogy.  For fans of the Hobbit do you like this?  Do you feel that this is a change that should not be made to the classic novel?  Sound off.
